The Westside Leadership Institute

The Westside Leadership Institute (WLI) is a course for Salt Lake City residents on how to get involved in their neighborhoods & implement community projects.

Started in 2004 as a leadership development course for Salt Lake City’s Westside residents, the WLI has over 250 graduates who remain actively involved in their communities.

The WLI is a partnership project among NeighborWorks Salt Lake, University Neighborhood Partners, the University of Utah Center for Public Policy and Administration, the University of Utah Gender Studies Program, and Salt Lake City Public School District.

The following four videos were created by students at the University of Utah as part of a year-long honors course where they worked alongside community members enrolled in the WLI.

And the video on this page provides more detail about the WLI's mission of purpose-driven community action.
